The 7 Days to Die Map Generator provided by the CBSM is intended to pre-generate the server map. The main intent for this, is to quickly reveal the map, and be done with the processing involved with this task. As of Alpha 11, 7 Days to Die suffers from an internal bottleneck, regardless of available server resources. This symptom is much more exaggerated on high population servers.
When a reduced number of players are exploring unknown terrain, the server will not need to generate the world on demand, improving performance. By pre-generating the map, you are essentially performing much of the necessary processing in a short period of time, as opposed to organically stretching the process over several weeks. (Map radius dependent)
The map generation feature works using your server's AFK population.
When a player goes AFK, they can enable the map generation on their player. While AFK, their player will begin exploring the map, and upon returning, the player can disable the map generation which will automatically return them to their initial starting location.
Multiple players can be generating the map at any given time. Progess can be seen in real-time with the Interactive Server Map feature.
This functionality requires an active CBSM License.
Map Generation Commands
As a server operator, you are able to enable or disable this feature - and also specify the amount you would like to automatically uncover. For most servers, simply uncovering the inner 50% of your world border should be sufficient for notable performance improvements (Server FPS).
- To enable or disable map generation, use the command: /map afk
The process will start / stop within 10 seconds
Note:
Due the introductions of mountain landscapes, it is possible for a player to suffer fall damage and eventually death, while generating the map.
Use at your own risk of player wellness.
